Grille Dowel Systems (GD1) Dowel panel grilles have a wood dowel spaced 12” oc., starting 5 1/2” from the end of each panel [unless otherwise specified]. Depending on the desired appearance and/or acoustical performance, each panel typically has 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10 wood members per foot. The dowels are normally painted black but can be in a wood finish if desired. Doweled panels are best utilized for ceiling applications.They are simple to install using a dowel clip which fastens around the dowel onto the flange of the grid. The dowel clip has a whole on each end that provides for wire to be fastened over the grid if there are seismic requirements.

Grille Backer (GB1) This system is specially made with dadoed wood backer strips. This provides an extremely rigid platform for mounting the wood members. This type of system is especially useful for wall applications. The panels are mounted to furring strips by screwing through the wood backer strip, a preferred method over screwing through a dowel. When installed in ceilings, they typically have a 1/2” – 1” reveal on each end of the panel. In other words, two panels placed end-on-end have a reveal between them of 1/2” – 1”. The panels are usually attached to the HD Grid by screwing through the wood backer strip into the face of the grid. In addition, special square clips are also available for attachment of the wood backer to the grid. If access is required in special areas, this type of Grille System can be easily accessed. Regarding series GB-4100 through GB10100 are made from a solid wood backer without notches.

Grille Backer Series 2 (GB2) The hybrid wood backer is different from wood backed systems in providing a notched wood backer strip that is shaped similar to a wood dowel. The appearance looking up at the ceiling visually looks like a dowel but has the added strength of a notched wood backer strip. It also uses the quick release dowel clip. All other features are similar to the wood back system.
